The Best Care for Kids with Diabetes, Asthma,
and Allergies.
What started as a test run in September 2009 is now official: the Nordsee-Internat St. Peter-Ording is now accepting children and teens diagnosed with type I and type II diabetes, asthma, allergies, and/or neurodermatitis.
In addition to the social advantages of a boarding school, other aspects like health, activeness, and nutrition are becoming increasingly important.
For many years Nordsee-Internat St. Peter Ording has been sought out by students with chronic illnesses; as a spa town with the therapeutic baths of the North Sea, St. Peter-Ording and its boarding school offer unparalleled qualities.
Around 120 girls and boys from grades 1 to 13 live in our generously laid out "Student Village", this includes our students with diabetes, asthma, allergies, and neurodermatitis.
"More and more kids are affected by health problems", explains Rüdiger Hoff, academic administrator of the Nordsee-Internat in St. Peter-Ording. "An important factor for many of our students and their parents is not only the approach to academics, but also the matter of environment, fresh air, athletics and space to move around, the quality of the nutrition, and the cleanliness of the accommodations."
We know that our mental state directly influences our health and success. With the fresh air, activities, and a healthy, diverse nutrition, our boarding school becomes a health retreat. And then when grades go up with the help of individual attention and guidance, well, life is good.
The North Sea as an Athletic Field
The NSI is on a privileged spot, right by a famous spa - the North Sea. It is situated on over 120,000 square meters of land, 100 meters from the dykes and the Böhler Lighthouse. It looks and feels like and oversized athletic field - and is used accordingly.
"There can hardly be any better conditions for pursuing one's athletic hobbies, or, once here, developing a favorite sporty activity. One can also just simply enjoy their free time taking walks with classmates along the embankments or through the salt marsh" says Rainer von Bülow, the business administrator of the boarding school. There is a vast selection of activities.
Cooperating with Medical Specialists
The location and climate of our boarding school offer our students with chronic illnesses the best conditions. We ensure individual attention by working in conjunction with medical specialists, the diabetes-ambulace of the Westküsten Clinic in Heide and the Reha Clinic I in St. Peter-Ording, as well as pulmonary and asthma clinics.
There are accommodations that especially address the comfort of our students who suffer from asthma or neurodermatitis.
